I got one too! 911 dispatcher helps couple deliver baby when they didn't even know they were pregnant! It was the 911 dispatcher's 3rd day on the job!!
MONTCALM COUNTY -- A Pierson man told a dispatcher today he did not realize his wife was pregnant before the dispatcher talked the couple through the birth of a healthy baby boy.
The father called 911 around 2:15 a.m. to report that his wife was having a baby. Dispatchers sent rescuers, but the baby would not wait and was born minutes later.
"Oh my god I'm looking at a baby!" the father said after being connected to dispatcher Angie Adams.
"I didn't know my wife was pregnant," he added moments later.
"You didn't know she was pregnant?" the dispatcher responded.
"No! No!" replied the father.
He told Adams he and his 27-year-old wife had recently quit smoking and thought her recent weight gain was related to that. He said the couple had two previous children, and that she had another child by a previous relationship.
Adams kept the couple on the phone through delivery and instructed them on what to do immediately following the birth.
At one point he said to his wife, "Oh my god, how could you possibly be pregnant?"
"I don't know," she responded.
Near the end of of the call, the phone was given to the mother.
"What a surprise," Adams said.
"Yeah, it was," the mother responded.
Rescuers soon arrived, and took the baby to a local hospital.
Adams recently completed her training and is Montcalm County Central Dispatch's newest dispatcher.
"Obviously, we're proud of her," Director Jeff Troyer said.
