Fruit salad: I made a fruit salad over the weekend to take to a cookout, and Ellie wanted strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, watermelon and apples. The strawberries (Hannaford) were great, as was the entire salad!
We're going to "pick your own" at the Altamont Orchard this week-end. They have several varieties and we always find some great ones. I remember a few years ago seeing Kim and Toni leaving the orchard with baskets of berries when we asked Kim if they were "good" she said "I don't know I haven't eaten any"...we couldn't quite understand that because when we go berry picking we are tasting as much as we are picking. You never know if you have a good bush if you don't try the fruit. Uncle Bernie always threatens to bring in a can of whipped cream to use while he's sampling. I'm just glad they don't weigh us on the way in and then again on the way out. Be happy to share. Wish us luck :)
You guys have to come to California for some strawberries! I didn't realize what they were supposed to taste like until we got some at the Farmer's Market the first weekend we were here. Even the ones in the market are superb because they come straight from the locals. Fruit out here is unbelievable... All are welcome anytime.
PS. Aunt Debb -- Toni remembers that encounter years ago and now you should know that I sample every fruit now! Even opened a container of blueberries in the market last week to try one before buying them. What a look I got from others in the store! Oh well...and yes they were sweet so I bought them!
