saturday before the storm ...

Its the last free Saturday till September ...

The freaking tourist are already here though. Driving in the city has gotten ridiculous. Its just not designed for an extra 2000 cars on the roads ...

By next Saturday I won't need to drive through the city. Only the highway to the house and the house to the track. I'm getting Jack used to our backyard so he won't miss the dog park for 6 weeks. Our yard is surrounded by a huge forest of trees and brush which he loves to sniff around. He will have plenty on territory to work.

I got my season pass for the track yesterday. Its such a bargain at $1 a day instead of $3 .

And I probably won't do laundry till September either. I have plenty of clothes to get through ..

I was just going to “build on your excitement”, John, as Opening Day approaches.

I felt the excitement, too, on my way down Union Ave as I drove to work this morning…..The beautiful horses prancing in front of the waiting cars as they crossed back to the barn or out to the track; a glimpse of some getting their morning workout on the track; horse vans lined up waiting their turn – some coming, some going; the orderliness of the newly-freshened-up picnic tables all proudly waiting in neat rows; the porches on Union Ave each attempting to “out flower” each other with beautiful, huge hanging baskets one right after the other; and yes more traffic already.

With that said, it may be one of my last drives along Union Ave for a while. I’ll take an alternative route by the lake. Not a bad alternative.

Have a great racing season, John! I always think of how much Poppy loved it; he sure did pass that love along to you.
